   For landmark discoveries of the molecular, biochemical, and functional defects underlying cystic fibrosis and the identification and development of medicines that reverse those defects and can treat most people affected by this disorder. Together, these discoveries and medicines are alleviating human suffering and saving lives.

   Canada Gairdner International Award

   Biology

   For pioneering research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the genetic disease cystic fibrosis, leading to the development of transformative drug therapies based on these mechanisms, thereby improving and saving countless lives.

   Biology

   For their key roles in developing a novel treatment for cystic fibrosis—a triple-drug combination that saves the lives of people with this lethal genetic disease
