His ideas have dominated the scene in these fields during the past decades.

   In recognition of his groundbreaking pioneering work on quantum field theory and statistical mechanics, in particular on monopoles and instanton solutions of Yang-Mills theories, the conformal bootstrap and gauge-string duality.
